Bowel movements, are we really going there?
Yup, you betcha!
I talk about poop with my clients. It sometimes is not the most pleasant topic to discuss, but eventually the unease that some individuals first have is eased quickly in knowing how informative our poop can be.
Poop is eye-opening as it can be very valuable to help understand what’s going on inside your own GI tract. The way I see it, poop can be used as a gauge of your health.
Digestion begins when we first think about food, before it is even consumed. It ends with our elimination of waste. From bocca to bottom (bocca means mouth in Italian).
I love the Italian culture. From taking my first Italian language class to my enjoyment of cooking Mediterranean type foods to my fiancé’s mother being full-blooded Italian, from the mainland it has been a wonderful addition to my life.
The large intestine, also known as the colon, is one of your major channels of detoxification and removal. It plays an important role in the body’s digestion and it’s overall ability to thrive.
When food moves through the GI tract, the large intestine is the final stop for your body to absorb water and essential vitamins and minerals. A healthy large intestine is one that is well colonized with good bacteria that function as gatekeepers. These healthy microbes allow important nutrients to enter into your bloodstream while keeping toxins and other unnecessary items out.
Thus, the elimination of poop is what carries these unabsorbed particles out of your body.
An unhealthy large intestine does not have the powerful gatekeepers to regulate and weed out the toxins we wanted eliminated in our poop. Thus, it is imperative to health of the individuals that the digestive tract, which includes the large intestine, is functioning optimally.
Daily your body takes in undigested particles and other elements through food, water and the environment. It is important to not only focus on what we put into our bodies but also how our bodies are digesting and integrating foods. Not being able to eliminate toxic wastes causes large intestine dysbiosis and discernible health challenges, which you may or may have not previous correlated it to the health of your large intestine.

By making a quick glance before you flush each day you will have a better sense of what’s going on in your large intestine.
